B.J.'s Optical, located at 17250 N.W. 57 Avenue, has a new optometrist, Dr. Bruce Fleisher. Having previously worked for 17 years at Costco's Optical, Fleisher is happy to join the B.J.'s family and is seeing many of his loyal patients from his years of experience.

Fleisher graduated in 1991 with a bachelor's in science from the University of Miami, and in 1995 from Nova Southeastern University's College of Optometry. He also completed a residency in primary care optometry, an uncommon practice in the field, though an additional qualification.

The board certified doctor is well-versed in ocular disease, and pediatric and geriatric care, often seeing patients from months old to nearly a hundred years old.

"My favorite part about my job is helping people. Many health issues can be detected through a regular eye exam and knowing that I can be the starting point for better health is great," said Fleisher. "Optometrists are like the gatekeepers of primary care."

Various symptoms of underlying medical issues like rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, and sickle cell anemia and many others can be detected through a regular eye exam.

The B.J.'s Optical, managed by Martha Lopez, is a full-service optical offering eye examinations, retail eyewear including name brands like Kenneth Cole, Oscar de la Renta, and Guess, as well as many other services.

Fleisher is available Mondays from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. He is available to see store members and non-members for eye examinations.

Those who would like to make an appointment can call the optical center at 305-821-7591.
