Community Thursday, January 14, 2016

The Main Street Playhouse, 6766 Main Street in Miami Lakes, has scheduled a variety show in January and the first Main Street Players’ play for 2016 in February.

The Fat Stacks Variety Show, a continued open mic night series, comes to Miami Lakes on Saturday, January 16 at 9 p.m. with doors open at 8 p.m. The Main Street Players' mission is to put the stage back into the hands of the community by lending the space for performers to showcase their talents throughout the evening.

Performers range from spoken word poets to musicians and beyond. Anyone with a unique talent is encouraged to participate. Walk-ins are welcome but not guaranteed a spot. To guarantee a spot, email fatopenmic@gmail.com. Performers receive free entry, while general admission is $10.

Water By The Spoonful runs from Feb. 5 - 28

Water By The Spoonful, a pulitzer-prize winning play by Quiara Alegria Hudes, will hit the stage at the Main Street Playhouse from February 5 to 28, Fridays and Saturdays and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. followed by talkback discussions with guest speakers.

The play, directed by Robert Coppel and produced by Dennis Lyzniak, delves into the struggles and ironies in addiction, loss, and hope and how the threads connecting us with others may just be enough to hold us upright.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.mainstreetplayers.com or at the door with senior, student and military discounted rates at $20 per ticket, and standard tickets at $25. For more information visit www.mainstreetplayers.com.
