Mater Academy’s girl’s basketball team is blowing out the competition.

The Lady Lions (8-1, 5-0 in district play) have won by an average  margin of 34 points per game, holding the Goleman Gators to their lowest score, 9 points, in school history in the season opener.

Mater Academy defeated Mourning, 50-13, Hialeah Miami Lakes, 58-19, St. Brendan, 61-40, Westland Hialeah, 55-19, Ronald Reagan, 42-23, Hollywood Christian, 48-28, and Florida Christian, 52-28.

Norland handed the Lady Lions their lone loss of the season and Mater Academy has been on a winning streak ever since in dominating fashion.

Head coach Danny Arguello said his team has been working hard in the gym the past eight months and it’s paying off dividends.

“We have a tough schedule, playing ranked teams and every game is a learning experience,” he said.

The team is led by senior Antones Vinales, who is averaging 14 points per game followed by freshmen Brianna Alexander, averaging 11 points a game.
