Olympic Gold medalist Lauryn Williams made history as the first female American to medal in the Summer and Winter Olympics, and the Miami-Dade County Commission recognized her for the rare feat.
Commissioner Barbara Jordan and her fellow commissioners proclaimed April 8, 2014 as Lauryn Williams Day for winning a Gold Medal in track and field for the 4x100 relay during the 2012 Summer Olympics and a Silver Medal in the two-man Bobsled during the Winter Olympics this past February.
Williams also won a Silver Medal in Track and Field in the 100-meter race during the 2004 Summer Olympics. In 2004, she was the NCAA 100-meter Champion.
In 2005, her 4x100-meter team was named World Champions. In 2006, Williams was the World Indoor 60-meter Silver Medalist. Her Bobsled accomplishments include a Gold Medal in the World Cup in Austria. She was named to the U.S. National Bobsled Team in 2013 and finished in third place at the U.S. National Push Championships. Williams was named to the U.S. Winter Olympic Team in January of this year.
Williams is a 2004 graduate of the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance. She also holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.
