Miami-Dade County School Board approved three items proposed by Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman at its March meeting. The Board unanimously voted to approve a resolution proclaiming April 2015 as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month, endorse April 19-25 as Administrative Professionals Week, and April 22 as Administrative Professionals Day.
“Miami-Dade Public Schools recognizes the unfortunate existence of child abuse and neglect in our society today, calling on the community to address and monitor prevention programs. Our school district also joins thousands of people in recognizing and appreciating the values and contributions of administrative staff professionals to the workplace,” said Hantman.
The School Board also approved agenda item H-14 regarding Juvenile Diabetes awareness by Board member Lubby Navarro, co-sponsored by Hantman, Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall and Susie V. Castillo. The board unanimously voted to create an awareness plan with the partnerships of community-based organizations to inform students, parents, teachers, employees and the community about the symptoms of Juvenile Diabetes (Type I).
