Miami Lakers celebrated as longtime residents

Miami Lakes Mayor Manny Cid is recognizing residents who have lived in town for a quarter century or more. On Oct. 13, Cid, former Vice Mayor Nelson Rodriguez and Pedro Fiallo with American Legion Post 144 met in the Loch Lomond neighborhood with three generations of a family with longtime ties to Miami Lakes. In the photo above they are, left to right, Pedro Fiallo; Nelson Rodriguez; Matthew Casamayor, the son of Tico Casamayor and Mylene Casamayor; Mylene’s mother Maggie Senra and her husband, Fred Senra, a partner in the Miami Lakes AutoMall (the Senras are Matthew’s grandparents); Mayor Manny Cid, and his son, Manny Cid, Jr.

“Our community is great because of Miami Lakers like them who grow roots in our town and are #LakesLifers,” Cid said on social media. The Casamayors have lived in town for more than 25 years; the Senras are residents since 1984.

“I think the main reason we came to this beautiful town is because we like the atmosphere, we like the neighborly type of living that we were told about and we knew was a reality,” Fred Senra said. “We just wanted to be a part of that.” He is a member of the American Legion and the town’s zoning and planning board and vice president of the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce. Maggie Senra enjoys “the fact that I can find people that I know everywhere I go. Whether it’s Publix or the hair place… I just love that sense of a small town.” Their daughter, son-in-law and grandson echoed their appreciation for the town.
