Miami Lakes Branch Library announced the following programs are available for the public during April:
For Children and Families:
Reading Ready Toddler Storytime - Stories, songs and activities for toddlers and their care givers at 11 a.m. on Thursdays, April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
Just Add Rhythm: A Drum Workshop - An accessible and engaging rhythm and music program offering an interactive drumming experience for physical, mental, emotional and social benefits. Suitable for children with and without special needs. Program made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 4.
Saturday Matinee at the Library – Miami Lakes Branch presents family friendly films. This month’s movie is “Big Hero 6” to be shown at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 4.
Paws to Read – Certified therapy dogs listen to children read aloud which can help with reading skills, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 11.
For Teens:
Teen Club presents Movie Night – This month’s movie is “Into The Woods,” suitable to ages 12 to 18, at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7.
Teen Club -- Teens meet to play video games, watch anime, draw or discuss books. For ages 12-18 at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14.
Tween Book Club – A children’s book club for ages 8-12 that meets once a month to discuss the chosen book. This month’s title is “The Graveyard Book” by Neil Gaiman. Meets at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 25.
Eye-Catching Design – A 2-hour workshop on the fundamentals of design as it relates to building websites, graphic interfaces and interior design. Register at the branch. For teens ages 12-19. Program made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28.
For Adults:
Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr.’s Outreach – Mobile Office Community Outreach provides an opportunity for the community to speak with the Commissioner and/or his representative at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 13.
Cake Decorating for the holidays-- Regardless of the holiday, cakes are always in order. Learn how to decorate a cake for specific celebration. Registration required and limited to 20 participants. Made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 18.
Book Discussion Group – This month’s title is “The Street of a Thousand Blossoms” by Gail Tsukiyama. Meets at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21.
Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart’s Outreach – A member of Rep. Diaz-Balart’s staff will visit the library to discuss federal issues or any problem a constituent may have with a federal agency from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22.
Parent’s Rights and Responsibilities - Your Child’s Education – This workshop addresses the role that parents play in their child’s education at home, and the importance of school and community involvement to help improve education for all children. Program is sponsored by the Parent Academy of Miami-Dade County Public Schools in partnership with the Miami-Dade Public Library System. Meets at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 27.
Miami Lakes Branch Library is located at 6699 Windmill Gate Road and is open Monday and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The branch is closed on Sundays. For more information, call 305-822-6520.
