In observance of the National Day of Prayer, various representatives of the faith community and more than 50 attendees joined together at the Veteran’s Memorial in front of Miami Lakes Town Hall on May 7.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

In front of Town Hall, Mayor Michael Pizzi delivered the opening prayer and read a proclamation naming May 7 at National Day of Prayer in Miami Lakes.

Keynote speaker was Pastor Stuart Bodin of Miami Lakes United Methodist Church, and prayers for the seven centers of power – government, military, media, business, church, education, and family – were given by leaders of various religious organizations.

Miami Lakes resident Silvia Ivelisse sang her rendition of God Bless America.
