Miami Lakes named Tree City USA for eighth straight year

Community Wednesday, December 31, 2014

Miami Lakes continues to be recognized for its abundant and beautiful tree canopy and was once again awarded both the Tree City USA Certification and Growth Award designation.

This is the eighth consecutive year the Town has received the Tree City USA honor and the sixth consecutive year it has received the Growth Award. These designations are awarded to cities and towns for their excellence in urban forestry management.

The Tree City USA designation is provided by The Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Forest Service, to recognize environmental improvement and encourage higher levels of tree care throughout America.

The Tree City USA Growth Award is given to communities that go beyond the standards of Tree City USA and demonstrate improvement and growth of local tree care. Being a Tree City USA helps present the kind of image that most citizens want to have for the place they live or conduct business.

Miami Lakes has recently completed a comprehensive Tree Management Plan, which establishes an organized, proactive tree maintenance program to ensure the Town continues “Growing Beautifully.”
