The Town of Miami Lakes and the American Cancer Society are teaming up once again to bring back the Relay For Life of Miami Lakes, a community event, where teams form, raise money and walk through the night, while enjoying DJ entertainment, food and fun with friends and family. The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, from noon to midnight at Miami Lakes Optimist Park.
The Opening Ceremony and Survivor Celebration will be held during the evening of the Relay For Life event. A kickoff party was held in early December at the Miami Lakes Ale House where the community and councilmembers came out to support and recruit teams. While teams are raising much needed funds, they also raise awareness of the importance of cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and patient support.
This year, Gloria Garcia serves as Event Chair and has many years of participating and serving on the committee of the Relay For Life of Miami Lakes.
“It is an honor to serve as chair for the 2015 Relay For Life of Miami Lakes. The theme of the relay this year is ‘MOOVING For A Cure’ in tune with the history of Miami Lakes. Our community has always generously supported the fight against cancer, and I have no doubt that this event will raise awareness and serve to honor those who have courageously fought against cancer and remember those unfortunately are not longer with us,” said Garcia.
"Our teams are comprised of amazing individuals who, like me, have been impacted with either the loss of a loved one or know someone affected by cancer. It is wonderful to see them giving back as a community and coming together to an excellent cause," said Garcia.
