The Miami Rockets have taken off!

The newly assembled 12 and under travel baseball team comprised of players from Miami Lakes and Hialeah recently won the Miramar Wood Bats Tournament, recording a 5-1 record to capture the championship.

The team was put together by four fathers to compete at a high level and live the American Dream.

Some of the players came from Cuba less than a year ago and blended in “very” well with their teammates to win the tournament.

“This team is made up of players from many different cultures who demonstrated a lot of fear,” said head coach Simon Dalmau Sr. “For some of these players, not only was it their first championship, it was also their first Christmas in a free country.”

Simon said his players demonstrated a lot of heart during the four-day tournament, which featured 11 All-Star travel teams.

In the championship game, one of players delivered a key hit despite a fractured finger, which put the tying run on third base and eventually the Rockets took the lead later that inning.

The team is preparing for the Tournament of Champions, but the coaches are seeking sponsors and fund-raisers for the event.
