For Children and Families:
Read the Book, Watch the Movie – Share in stories and enjoy the book based films. Films include “WALL-E,” “Strange Magic,” Disneynature Oceans,” “Over the Hedge,” and “Norm of the North.” Event is sponsored by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30..
Reading Ready Toddler Storytime – Stories, songs and activities for toddlers and their caregivers. For ages 18 months to 3 years old at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays, April 6, 13, 20 and 27.
Baby and Me Group - Free 10-week session providing parents an opportunity to develop close relationships with their infants while learning about infant development. Paws To Read - Certified therapy dogs listen to children read aloud which can help with reading skills. Meets at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9.
Storytelling Miami: Sunset Jamz – Bring a chair or blanket and settle in for a fun evening outdoors with storytelling, music and more for the whole family. Features the Kuyayky Children’s Orchestra at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19.
For Teens:
Teen Club: Teens meet to play videogames watch anime, discuss books or draw at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, April 5, 12, and 26.
TEXTile – Stories are not told solely through words on paper. Through this workshop, participants will learn this age old technique of weaving stories and poetry into fabric and the history behind this art form and create their own pieces in this style. Space is limited so contact the branch for registration. Meets at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 21.
Let’s Roll, Make Paper Recycled Paper Beads – In honor of Earth Day, make recycled wearables that participants can take home, string bracelets or necklaces. Materials will be provided. Space is limited so contact the branch for registration. Meets at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26.
For Adults:
AARP TEK Workshop – The AARP TEK program brings free hands-on technology workshops to help participants make the most of their mobile devices, for work or play. Don’t have to be a member of AARP to expand tech knowledge. Devices will not be provided so bring personal Android smartphone for a hands-on experience. Space is limited. Go Club of Miami Lakes: Now everyone can embark on a journey and uncover the ancient game of strategy, attack, and defense, the Game of Go. Meets from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, April 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30.
Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr.’s Mobile Office Community Outreach - Provides an opportunity for the community to speak with the Commissioner and/or his representative from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, April 11.
Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Community Outreach – A member of his staff will be on hand to discuss federal issues or any problem a constituent may have with a federal agency at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27.
Miami Lakes Branch Library is located at 6699 Windmill Gate Road and is open Monday and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The branch is closed on Sundays. For more information, call 305-822-6520.
