Religious Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Miami Lakes Congregational Church, revitalilzing an annual tradition, is inviting the community to a “Messiah Sing Along” directed by Dr. Adolfo Vidal, and accompanied by professional soloists and chamber orchestra.

This year’s “Sing Along” will be at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, at the church, 6701 Miami Lakeway South, across from Miami Lakes K-8 Center.

The Christmas portion of “Messiah”, using the G. Schirmer score, will be performed, and the community is invited to join the choir, as participation is encouraged and needed. Score copies will be available.

The “Sing Along” will feature such favorite “Messiah”choruses as “Glory to the Lord,” “And He Shall Purify,” “Thou that Tellest Good Tidings,” “For Unto Us a Child is Born,” “Glory to God in the Highest,” and, of course, the “Hallelujah Chorus.”

One of the most famous pieces of music ever written or performed is Handel’s “Messiah.” It was first performed in Dublin in April 1742, and received its London premiere nearly a year later. After an initially modest public reception, the oratorio gained in popularity, eventually becoming one of the best-known, and most frequently performed choral works in Western music.

Admission to the concert is free as part of the church’s ongoing concert series. Donations will be accepted at the door. For more information, call the church office at 305-822-4313.
