In early March, Miami Lakes piano teacher, Maria Cama was recognized for International Women’s Day on the America Teve, television program Arrebatados hosted by Maria Lara.

The show commemorated the works of local women from the Cuban exile community and how they’ve empowered women in Cuba to succeed, in the midst of the Castro regime. The program also featured Carmen Machado from Rescate Jurídico and Bárbara Sendiña from the Ladies in White (Damas en Blanca).

Maria Cama was noted for her humanitarian organization, Proyecto Capitán Tondique. The Tondique Project was founded years ago with the goal of feeding homeless and handicapped Cubans, who receive no support from the regime. Currently, Tondique feeds around 70 people every week.
