Miami Lakes Educational Center’s (MLEC) Girls Who Code club has traveled to Silicon Valley, Boston, and Canada to attend and participate in workshops and conventions and have caught the attention of JaimeSue Goodman, Project Leader for Google’s CS First initiative. Club members Michele Wu and Joanna Luo were mentioned by Goodman in her TedTalk titled “Lucky is a Lie” that took place in Charleston, North Carolina.

In the video, which can be found at https://goo.gl/pcst25, Goodman posts Luo and Wu’s photo on the screen and explains how inexperience and age are not barriers for computer science and teaching outreach.

“These two girls are high school juniors,” said Goodman. “This is Michelle and Joanna. They go to a school that has a strong technology focus. But they wanted to bring this opportunity to other kids near them. So they went to a middle school, took the materials with them and said ‘let us start a game design club.’ And now, they’re teaching kids younger than they are. They’re high school juniors, they have no background in teaching and they can bring this opportunity to others just like all of you can.”
