Valeria Bula, a senior in the journalism strand of the Cambridge Academy at Miami Lakes Educational Center, was accepted to Yale University.
Bula has a long list of accomplishments and accolades. She is the editor-in-chief of The Harbinger, president of the Junior Statesmen of America, captain of the debate team and a LEDA scholar.
Bula decided that she wanted to share the news of her acceptance with the world. She set up her phone’s video and recorded the moment that she, along with her parents, logged on to check her admission decision.
She posted that video on Twitter, where it went viral. It has received over 24,000 views, 128 retweets and 988 likes. It drew comments and congratulations from hundreds of people, including superintendent Alberto Carvalho, congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and attorney Katie Phang.
Bula has not committed to Yale just yet. Although it remains her top choice, she is waiting to visit a few other schools and see what her options will be.
