The Town of Miami Lakes will honor its first Vice Mayor Roberto Alonso on Saturday, January 25, by officially naming the community center at Royal Oaks Park the Roberto Alonso Community Center.
The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. followed by the unveiling of the designation.
Alonso was a strong advocate for the planning and development of Royal Oaks Park and was best known for championing the vision, creation, and development of the park and community center.
Alonso served eight years on the town council and focused on improving townwide public safety, making neighborhood roads and parks safer.
“Renaming the community center in Roberto’s name is an honor,” said Councilmember Nelson Rodriguez. “I remember seeing him at the park daily overlooking its development; he loved this park.”
