In what’s become a familiar scene, Miami Lakes Optimist Club’s Softball program has become a feeder to Miami-Dade and Broward High schools.

This year, the program has more girls selected to The Miami Herald All-Dade Teams than last season, proving the great job the coaches have done throughout the years in preparing the girls for high school ball, making the coaches’ job a little easier.

The list of girls making the All-Dade Teams was led by Faith Vazquez, who came in second in Miami-Dade County with six homeruns and earning her first Miami-Dade Honors.

Samantha Dominguez also made the first team, and Mater Lakes Alexis Castroman, who was tied for fourth place for pitchers with a 2.24 era and 77 strike outs, made the second team as well as Kayleen Romero from American. Romero was nominated for Athlete of the Year.

The list continues with American player Victoria Morales, who has over 17 wins and led her team to a district title, and other players included Emily Santos, Monica Marquez, and Mater Lakes Melanie Arauz, Alyssa Rodriguez and Addy Garcia.

We are extremely proud of all of these girls for their hard work and dedication, some playing softball since the age of seen. Their sacrifices have gotten them where they are today.

The results for the 2014 Miami Lakes Optimist Club baseball and softball season:

The Yankees won the Pinto Division and the Red Sox finished second; the Marlins claimed the Mustang Division and the Angels finished in second place; the Yankees finished first in the Bronco Division and the Orioles came in second; and the Red Sox won the Pony Division.

For softball, the Heat won the championship and the Panthers were the runner-up.
