Our Neighborhoods Lakes on the Green

Community By David Snelling, Reporter Thursday, August 5, 2021

History

Lakes on the Green is a gated community in Hialeah, in the northwest section of Miami-Dade County.

Built by The Graham Companies beginning in the early 1990s, it has features that can be found in nearby Miami Lakes: Tree canopies; lakes that can be seen from the curbs and curving byways.

Also, two lakes in the community are named for women in the Graham family: Lake Gwen, for Gwendolyn Graham, former candidate for governor of Florida, and Lake Joan, for Joan Graham, who was once married to the late William E. Graham.

The community of 548 single family homes is bordered by Northwest 87th Avenue, Inter- state 75 and Florida’s Turnpike and Northwest 195th Street.

Realtor Juan C. Naranjo of the United Realty Group, lived in the neighborhood for six years and is a former board member for the homeowner’s association.

Amenities

In addition to water views and tree-lined streets, residents can venture outside the gates to enjoy Country Lake Park, which is across Northwest 87th Avenue.

It has baskeball courts, baseball fields and a tot lot.

Two shopping centers with supermarkets, restaurants and other services are just outside the entrance at Northwest 186th Street.

Lawton Chiles Middle School and Spanish Lake Elementary School are close by.

In 2019, the last year schools were graded, the Florida Department of Education rated Lawton Chiles a “B” school and gave Spanish Lake an “A.”

What does it cost?

Naranjo said 240 homes were built on the water but that each property owner in the community pays $150 a month in fees to maintain the waterways and green spaces; staffing the guard gate and to repair sidewalks and streets.

Homes are one or two stories and have up to five bedrooms and four baths.

Many houses have garages.

Naranjo said home prices can span $350,000 to $800,000.

He said three homes, all with three bedrooms and two baths, are currently on the market with prices ranging from $449,000 to $500,000.

Naranjo said five homes sold in Lakes on the Green during the past six months.

Who lives there?

Lakes on the Green is a stable community, where residents of all ages have lived for years, according to Naranjo.

Police officers are also residents.

“It’s a safe community where kids play safe in the streets and everyone gets along very well,” he said.
