Our Neighborhoods: Royal Palm Estates

History

Royal Palm Estates was developed in the late 1980s and there are 108 single-family homes in the community.
The neighborhood is at the northwest corner of Northwest 154th Street and Northwest 82nd Avenue, and extends north to Northwest 157th Terrace.
Its western border, at Northwest 83rd Place, abuts a waterway and land where cattle graze.
The neighborhood is almost fully developed: a home is rising on the last remaining lot.
The Park Centre Shops are a short walk across Northwest 154th Street.
Unlike many other communities in town, Royal Palm Estates was not built around a lake.

Amenities

The entrance is staffed around the clock by security guards.
Visitors are required to show identification before passing through the gates.
Landscaping is mature and lush. Many properties have built-in pools.
The two-story houses were built mostly in a Mediterranean style, with details that include clay barrel tile roofs, terra cotta tile floors and arches, details that RE/MAX Unique Realty agent Lynn Ancel Matos called “stunning.
“It is a unique, one-of-a-kind neighborhood with oversized home sites, private roads and a fabulous tree canopy,” Matos said.
The community is close to Interstate 75, Florida’s Turnpike and the Palmetto Expressway.
Nearby schools include Bob Graham Education Center for grades K-8 and Barbara Goleman Senior High School.
The Florida Department of Education gave both schools A ratings.

Who lives there

Royal Palm Estates appeals to families, professionals and retirees, and some elders have lived there for three decades.

Councilwoman Marilyn Ruano and her family chose to live in the neighborhood because “it’s safe and secure and in the town that we love,” Ruano said.

What it costs

Homes listed for sale range from $599,000 to $1,099,000. The monthly homeowner’s association fee is $190.
