At a ceremony held in the school’s Spartan Center on December 3, 49 students from Monsignor Edward Pace High School were inducted into the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society.
As the country’s largest and foremost organization devoted to recognizing exceptional high school students, the National Honor Society (NHS) invites members into its fold based upon four pillars – scholastic performance, devotion to service, leadership skills, and overall character.
Every year, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are selected by a faculty council based on these four criteria. The inductees were invited along with their parents to the December 3 induction ceremony. This year, 19 sophomores, 19 juniors, and 11 seniors were welcomed into the organization by their new NHS peers and the Pace faculty.
The evening began with addresses from principal Ana Garcia and NHS adviser Luis Mayo congratulating the students on their success and thanking parents for supporting their children. NHS Executive Board Officers then spoke of the four pillars asked of them and all other NHS members before director of Student Affairs Eduardo Flor began announcing the names of all the inductees.
The newest members of NHS were presented with their certificates, took part in the traditional candle-lighting ceremony, and, following a prayer, enjoyed dinner with their families.
As part of the National Honor Society, these 49 students will continue to lead their peers and their fellow NHS members through their excellence and leadership.
