Pace student earns $40,000 Amazon scholarship

Monsignor Edward Pace High School senior Nicolas Macias, 18, of Hialeah, was awarded a $40,000 Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship. Amazon will pay Macias $10,000 each year while
he attends the University of Florida. He plans to begin classes in Gainesville in the fall and major in computer science. Macias was a member of every honor society offered by the Catholic school, which is in Miami Gardens, Pace said. He was also president of the Computer Club, was a Key Club representative; president of the school’s chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America and founding member of the E-Sports Club. The Amazon scholarship also includes a paid summer internship with the company.
