Monsignor Edward Pace High School’s girls varsity volleyball team has seen great success under head coach Markia Brown-Seetal, winning the district championship in 2014. Thus far, the 2015 season has been no different, as the team netted a 6-3 district record and an 11-7 overall record.
While October was the month for district and regional finals in volleyball, it was also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, something that the team recognized by wearing special jerseys. Brown-Seetal suggested the jerseys, as the teams had worn pink socks and ribbons for last year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Sharell Nairn, the team’s middle blocker/outside hitter, has been one of the team’s key players, along with her fellow seniors Sophia Gonzalez, Lauren Hoffman, Melanie Sandoval, and Arianna Mitchell.
“The chemistry we had last season is still there,” said Nairn when asked of the team’s success in 2015. She believes that junior Alyssa Jean Jacques will continue to be a key player for the team next season.
The team continued its post-season with a 3-2 win in the district semi-final against MAST Academy on October 20 before ending their season with a hard-fought 3-2 loss to La Salle in the district finals on October 22.
