Pack 660 Cub Scouts release baby loggerhead turtles

Community Friday, September 16, 2016

During the last week of summer, Pack 660 Cub Scouts of Miami Lakes had an environmental adventure they will never forget as they releases baby loggerhead turtles to the ocean.
The Scouts participated in a Nova Southeastern University program at the campus’s Marine Biology School in Dania Beach learning about Florida turtles, nesting habits, the reasons for their endangerment, and more.

The Scouts then went with researchers to the beach where, under a full moon and a coming high tide, they helped release over 50 turtles who were salvaged from a nest and strengthened by the University experts.

It was an amazing night for the Scouts. After what they learned, the Pack decided to adopt Turtle nesting sites to help preserve the man species.

Cub Scout Pack 660 meets every Thursday at 7 p.m. at Miami Lakes United Methodist Church, 14800 N.W. 67 Avenue. Boys from the 1st to 5th grades are welcome to join and participate in the many outdoor adventures the Scouts and their families experience together.
