Pets of Miami Lakes

Abi Rose, a Cairn Terrier mix, had been returned to her rescue organization because her former owners said she was hyperactive and bothered other dogs.

But now she is sitting pretty after Elsa and Rafael Bergolla, who live in the Royal Oaks East community in Miami Lakes, adopted her.

“We love her to pieces,” Elsa Bergolla said of her 2-year-old pet. “She is so sassy, and all-around fun to be with. And very bright. She has been a joy. We are really, really happy we got her.”

Abi Rose had a big job when she arrived at her new home: To fix the hole in the Bergolla’s hearts after the death of their Maltese mix named Mia.

“She was a rescue, too,” Bergolla said. “I had her 14 years.”

By all accounts, Abi Rose is a wonderful successor to Mia. She loves routine and each night at 7 p.m., retires to her crate to sleep until morning.

Abi Rose, who resembles Toto in “The Wizard of Oz,” enjoys her walks. She’d love it if you say hello when you meet.
