Baby, aka Harry, is an independent orange tabby cat who fostered a friendship between two women in Miami Lakes.
“He came to the door one day during the pandemic and he never left,” said Jacqueline Puissant. “He just showed up and he adopted me. I call him Baby.”
Baby was a wonderful companion to her husband William Kniffin before he died in 2023.
“[Baby] came at a good time,” she said.
But Baby isn’t a house cat, and Puissant wondered where he went at night. After a year, she found out he belonged to Susan Camp, who lives in their neighborhood.
In 2017, Camp was involved in animal rescues and found a stray kitten near the Westland Mall in Hialeah.
She named him Harry because he reminded her of the English prince.
“He stayed with us for about four or five years,” Camp said. “And then he was disappearing, and I didn’t know where he was. We discovered he was at Jackie’s house.”
Harry wasn’t happy at Camp’s home because she had dogs and cats and there was too much competition for her attention. Puissant formally adopted him.
But he still visits Camp several times a week to get snacks and accompanies her when she walks her dogs in the neighborhood.
The charming feline -- known as Harry or Baby, depending on who is doting on him -- responds to either name.
“We became the best of friends,” Puissant said about Camp. “We sort of have shared custody. For sure, Baby brought us together.”
