Rainbow Springs State Park in Dunnellon offered a respite to the summer heat for the King family of Miami Lakes.

“It takes your breath away, but it’s refreshing,” Brian King said of their swim on Aug. 5 in the clear blue water that averages 72 degrees, year ‘round. “It was beautiful. Perfect for the hottest summer ever.”

The springs and park are such popular destinations on weekends that they often reach capacity for visitors and close early. It was designated a Registered National Landmark in 1972, according to the plaque in the photo.

Shown from left are Camila Mateo, 12; Carla Moya, 15; Jessica King, a Registered Nurse, and her husband Brian King, a real estate broker. Michael Infante was the photographer.
