Miami Lakes Public Safety Committee (PSC) will host an event to promote World Stroke Day at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, at the new MDFR Fire Station 64, 15325 N.W. 77 Court, in Miami Lakes.
The event, done in partnership with Battalion Chief Abel Fernandez, who is also a member of the Town’s PSC will include Fire Rescue officials who will be available to provide information on Atrial Fibrillation, a known cause of strokes, as well as provide onsite blood pressure checks.
Atrial Fibrillation, or AF, is the most common type of arrhythmia, or a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat.
During an arrhythmia, the heart can beat too fast, too slow, or with an irregular rhythm. People who have AF may not feel symptoms, however, even when AF isn’t noticed, it can increase the risk of stroke.
Anyone who seeks to have their pulse or blood pressure checked can be served at both Miami Lake Fire Stations – Station 1 at 16699 N.W. 67 Avenue, and Station 64, 15325 N.W. 77 Court.
