Miami Lakes Public Safety Committee is hosting a Holiday Crime Prevention Seminar at 7 p.m. on Wednesday November 18, at Town Hall Council chambers.
Sgt. Joseph Bermudez, Community and Youth Outreach officer with Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), will conduct the crime prevention presentation where he will provide an informative lecture on crime reduction techniques.
Bermudez will provide residential security recommendations, strategies, and methods to reduce burglary occurrences including the proper use of landscaping, the importance of lighting, proper locking mechanisms on doors and windows, and the basic principles of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED).
He will also offer tips on carrying only necessary credit cards, shredding documents, and being aware of “phishing” scams.
Bermudez is a 23-year veteran with MDPD. Prior to becoming a law enforcement officer, he was a member of the U.S. Army serving s a Counter-Intellience agent in the Military Intelligence Corps.
For the past 14 years, Bermudez has been involved in Community Policing and Crime Prevention, and is a certified Florida Crime Prevention Practitioner.
