Construction is underway at Norman and Jean Reach Park, 7901 N.W. 176 Street in Palm Springs North, to upgrade the drainage system and increase the playability of the sport fields after a torrential down pour, according to the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works.
The scope of the work includes improvements in both the roadway right-of-way and the adjacent park, raising the existing drainage system to meet current standards and to mitigate the compaction of the swale by installing swale blocks and open cell pavers.
The work inside the park consists of raising the park’s profile in order to provide a slope to the proposed dry retention area. The dry retention area will be constructed to hold storm water runoff and drain the water off the playing fields after a rain storm.
The construction is expected to last until December, and all efforts are being made by the county to minimize the impact from the construction activities to area residents, schools, businesses and motorists.
The area will be restored to its original condition immediately upon the completion of the construction activities. The restoration activities will address any areas impacted by the project, such as grassy areas, sidewalks and other items affected by the construction.
The Miami Lakes United Soccer Club practices at the park.
