Ribbon Cuttings: Sharkey's Cuts for Kids

Business By Alexandra Herrera, Reporter Thursday, September 14, 2023

When new businesses open in town, elected officials, Miami Lakes Economic Development Committee members and the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce will welcome them with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

It was Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids’ turn on Aug. 14. The salon at 6762 Main St. caters to the youngest clientele in town, with a colorful atmosphere; special seats shaped like cars to ease little ones during their first haircuts; video games and kid-friendly spa services. Tuesday is low sensory day, with dimmed lights, quieter music and a slower pace for kids who need a calm environment.

On this day, members of the Giving Gators charity joined the party. From left are Giving Gators members Hector Abad, Emily Garcia and Mario Pinera Jr.; Giving Gators President Denis Brenes; Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids co-owners Jennifer Thompson and Nanette Thompson; Councilman Ray Garcia and Giving Gators members Daylin Garcia and Megan Garcia. Not shown are Mayor Manny Cid and Matthew Casamayor, chair of the Economic Development Committee and Tico Casamayor, director of public relations for the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce.
