Students from ages 12 to 18 participating in the Miami Lakes Optimist Club sports program have until Wednesday, October 15 to apply for the Roland Gomez Scholarship Award.
A male and female winner will be announced in November, when they will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship for their college education expenses.
Participants must be a member of the Optimist Club for at least three years and demonstrated excellence in academic and community service.
The student-athletes are nominated by their coaches and the winners and runner-ups are determined by a points system in which the participants are evaluated based on their school academics, Optimist sports, school activities and community service.
Student-athletes can now register to be nominated for next year’s award by going online and fill out application at www.miamilakesoptimist.org and submit copies of their report cards.
