Members of Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida Troop 902 worked on two different projects through last fall that will be considered for Silver Awards this year.
Scouts Victoria Loyal and Alexa Landrian created Mission: Paw-sitive Impact to help partner veterans with shelter dogs. Three dogs got new homes during their project, which included an adoption event at K-9 Cove in September. Troop 902 co-leader Rebeca Morales provided the first photo.
Shown in the second photo are Scouts Isabella Mejia and Aurora Medina, also part of Troop 902. In October they created a sensory room at GiGi’s Playhouse to benefit the community.
Boys from BSA Scout Troop 566 and girls from BSA-G Troop 566 retired over 200 American flags in front of Miami Lakes Town Hall during a ceremony in October. Twenty scouts oversaw five fire pits to burn a large collection of flags that had flown over homes and auto dealerships. The troop is currently led by Senior Patrol Leader Sara Mendez, according to Sean Schwinghammer. People may deposit old or worn-out flags in a mail box in front of Town Hall for the scouts to retire them.
