Boy Scout Troop 566 traveled by canoe and camped along the Peace River during a spring trip to explore Florida’s unspoiled beauty.

Seventeen people from the troop that is chartered out of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church paddled over 20 miles of the Peace River in Hardee County last spring, between the Town of Zolfo Springs and Gardner, Scout Master Sean Schwinghammer said in an email.

The scouts saw catfish, herons and many alligators. They stayed on an island without power or facilities, he said.

The scouts meet every Tuesday night, 7:30 p.m. -  9 p.m. Boys ages 11 to 17 are welcome to join.
