Miami Lakes Elderly Affairs Committee, in partnership with Miami-Dade Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr., will present “Servicing Our Seniors Expo” on Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Mary Collins Community Center, 15151 N.W. 82 Avenue.
The following agencies will be participating in the Expo:
• Alliance for the Aging – Through a network of provider agencies, the Alliance provides home and community-based services that help older adults age in place in their own communities.
• Community Action and Human Services Department – Miami-Dade County’s largest provider of comprehensive social and human services offering a variety of elderly assistance programs.
• Department of Children & Families – DCF Adult Protective Services will provide information on abuse, neglect and exploitation awareness for the vulnerable adult(s) population.
0002000006490000036C643,• Department of Motor Vehicles – Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles MiniFLOW (Florida Licensing on Wheels) will be onsite to help renew, replace or obtain new Florida Driver’s Licenses. Written exams and driving text will not be offered.
• Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department – Will provide senior fire and life safety education as well as register participants for the Senior Smoke Alarm Installation program.
• Miami-Dade Elections Department – Will assist with voter registration, voter card replacement, name changes, political party changes, signature updates, absentee ballot requests for the November general election, restoration of civil rights information. (Note: The Elections Department will not be accepting or collecting Mail-In Ballots for the Town of Miami Lakes May 17 Special Election.)
• Miami-Dade Public Library – Will provide information on how to obtain a library card and how to access its services.
• SafeLink Wireless – Organization makes wireless telephone service more affordable by offering Lifeline service for qualified customers.
• Miami-Dade Transit Department – The Golden Passport EASY Card allows Miami-Dade residents who are 65 years old or older to ride free on the transit system.
• Miami-Dade Transit Department – The Special Transportation Services (STS) is available for people with a physical, mental or intellectual disability who cannot ride Metrobus, Metrorail or Metromover.
• Walgreens Pharmacy – Will be providing free flu shots.
