Coaches and parents of the South Florida Sluggers, a 12-Under AAA baseball team with many players from Miami Lakes, are looking for community support to send the team to tournaments in Gainesville and the Bahamas this summer and fall.
The team began playing together four years ago under the direction of Regino Rodriguez, Robert Arroyo and Abnell Melendez, a trio of fathers who love the game and love their players.
It’s their mission to guide the boys to become better baseball players by playing in a competitive environment and to be leaders on and off the field.
The team is planning to participate in the Bahamas Baseball Challenge Youth Baseball Tournament on August 8-14 that will feature teams from throughout the United States. During the week long event, the Sluggers will be able to compete against the highest level of young baseball teams and get the exposure they need to take their talents and game up to another level.
In order to make their dream a reality, the team is planning numerous fundraisers throughout the community to raise the funds needed to attend the tournament. Their goal is $6,000 and after one month, they have raised $1,430 from 46 donors.
The South Florida Sluggers is a 501c(3) (Not for Profit) organization and any donation may be considered a tax deduction. For any sponsors that donate a minimum of $250, the team will present a sponsorship plaque and display their logo on a banner on display in the Bahamas and at all home games.
