State Representative Manny Diaz Jr. held a roundtable discussion about education with principals at Bob Graham Education Center earlier this month.
BGEC principal Yecenia Martinez-Lopez and school district administrators hosted Diaz and principals from Ernest R. Graham Elementary, Hialeah Gardens Middle, Ben Shepard Elementary, Spanish Lake Elementary, and Jose Marti MAST Academy.
Diaz gave a brief recap of education highlights from the past Legislative Session and what he hopes to accomplish during the 2016 Session.
Questions focused on concerns over FSA test scores, the challenge for ESOL students, education funding and how to attract teachers in the STEM field.
Diaz will take the feedback from District 103 principals and apply it as chairman of the Choice and Innovation Committee. He has already filed House Bill 189: STEM Teachers Pilot Program, designed to make it easier to attract qualified professionals in Science, Engineering and Programming.
