STU basketball coach wins Sun Conference Coach of the Year

St. Thomas University’s women’s basketball head coach Albrey Grimsley won the Sun Conference Coach of the Year after leading her team to a share of the regular season conference championship, while her players were also recognized for their performances on the court.

Under Grimsley, the Bobcats finished the season at 14-9 and earned  the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament in Lakeland. The Bobcats lost in the Sun Conference tournament semifinals to Webber International.

St. Thomas University’s Jamesha Willis earned Defensive Player of the Year honors as well as being named to the All-Conference First Team.

The 5-7 senior from Palatka, Florida, led the Bobcats in scoring with 14.9 points per game and in steals with 69 for the regular season.

Willis’ teammates Samara Auguste and Supavadee  Kunchuan  received Freshmen of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, respectively.

Auguste, a 5-5 freshmen guard from West Palm Beach, averaged 8.9 points per game and recorded a team-high 71 assists to go along with 52 steals.

Kunchuan led the Bobcats in rebounding with 7.3 per game and averaged 13 points a game while shooting 53.9 percent from the field  during the season.

Willis and Kunchuan were named First-Team All-Conference, while Auguste and Katie Rienaswere named Second-Team All-Conference. Willis was also named to the All-Defensive Team.
