The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), better known as the Summer BreakSpot, will be offering nutritious meals to kids and teens, 18 years of age and under, all summer long.
The program is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is administered in Florida by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Food, Nutrition and Wellness.
Children need healthy food all year long in order to grow and learn. During the school year, many children receive free and reduced-price meals through the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs. When school lets out for the summer, many of these children are at risk of hunger or poor nutrition. The SFSP is designed to ensure that children have access to nutritious meals.
In Miami Lakes, the Summer BreakSpot will be offered at Positive Choice at Miami Lakes Educational Center, 5780 N.W. 158 Street, Mondays through Fridays, from June 9 to August 15. Serving hours include breakfast from 10 to 10:30 a.m., and lunch from 1 to 2 p.m.
