The Town of Miami Lakes has partnered with Loving Soles in an effort to collect shoes for the needy in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The local charity dedicated to providing shoes to Miami's homeless, founded by Tony Garcia, Dr. Daryl Gershbein, Dr. John McGoohan, and Ileana McGoohan's teenage children, will donate gently worn shoes to Camillus House and Catholic Charities.
The shoe drive is scheduled for Saturday, November 9, starting at 10 a.m. and will take place at Town Hall located at 6601 Main Street. Miami Lakes residents are invited to join town officials by bringing their gently worn shoes to Town Hall.
Adult sizes will be donated to Camillus House and shoes for children will be donated to Catholic Charities. Monetary donations will also be accepted and will go toward the purchase of shoes.
"The work Loving Soles does for the community tackles issues of basic human dignity. We overlook what a decent pair of shoes can do to help someone get ahead," said Councilmember Tony Lama. "A decent pair of shoes for a child to wear to school or for an adult to wear to a job interview can truly make an impact."
