Town modifies July 4 celebration

Miami Lakers have dealt with a lot in 2020 so far: a raging virus and the abrupt closures of schools and businesses in response to it.
July 4th can’t come soon enough. The celebration of the birth of our nation will happen in Miami Lakes, but with a few twists to avoid crowds and protect residents
from the coronavirus.
The town council will approve final arrangements on June 16.
During the 17th annual celebration, fireworks will likely be shot off from the west and east sides of town, at Graham Dairy Lake and
Miami Lakes Optimist Park.
The lake and park will be closed to the public.
Residents will be able to watch the shows from their backyards or their cars, and from a livestream on the town’s website and social media.
The town’s Cultural Affairs Committee is encouraging residents to post photos of their
“All-American” barbecues on social media.
Cid said during a recent Facebook video that he supports the revised celebration because “it’s important for our residents, especially during these difficult times.
“It will look different from last year, when 5,000 people came to hang out at the park,” he said. “But understand we must be safe.”
