Miami Lakes continues to be recognized for its beautiful tree canopy and was once again awarded the Tree City USA Certification and Growth Award designation for this past year.

This is the 7th consecutive year the town has received the designation and the fifth consecutive year it has received the Growth Award. The honors are awarded to cities for their excellence in urban forestry management.

The Tree City USA designation is provided by The Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of Foresters and the USDA Forest Service, to recognize environmental improvement and encourage higher levels of tree care throughout America.

The Tree City USA Growth Award is given to communities that go beyond the standards of Tree City USA that demonstrate improvement and growth of local tree care. Being a Tree City USA helps present the kind of image that most citizens want to have for the place they live or conduct business.

The town is continuing its tree management efforts this year through the utilization of the I-Tree Streets program that will assist in quantifying the economic and environmental benefits the tree canopy provides. In addition, the town is developing a Tree Management Plan which will establish an organized, proactive tree maintenance program to ensure Miami Lakes continues “Growing Beautifully.”

“One of the many reasons for Miami Lakes’ increasing property values is due to our embrace of trees,” said Vice Mayor Many Cid. “In the near future, we will be releasing an I-Tree report from the USDA Forest Service which will quantify the value of the town’s long-term tree investments.”
