Town offers teens a chance to make sandbags, earn service hours

It’s the rainy season, and recent heavy downpours flooded town streets with excess water that rose toward front doors.

The Town of Miami Lakes is offering teenagers an opportunity to earn community service hours by making sandbags to help protect properties.

Kids can volunteer at Royal Oaks Park, 16500 NW 87th Ave. Contact John Paul Yanes, at yanesj@miamilakes-fl.gov.

The sandbags are free to residents who show identification during sandbag giveaways, on dates to be announced on the town website as storms approach.
