Town Topics: What are the most important events in America’s past 250 years?

Amanda Espinal, Lead Rental Agent Champion Rent-A-Car, Davie

“My favorite important event is the Industrial Revolution because we were able to expedite a lot of technological advances as a country, starting with the railroads, oil and then steel and a lot of these titans came about,” Amanda Espinal said.

“Like Vanderbilt, Carnegie and Rockefeller. I just think it’s really interesting how as humans … we were able to jump forward like that.”

Joshua Guzman Assistant Manager Champion Rent-A-Car, Miami Gardens

“One of the most important events would be COVID,” Joshua Guzman said.

“It did impact our country in a very strong way, shocked everybody and realistically we haven’t had that in 100 years. I think the country hasn’t seen something like it in a long time … nobody really expected it.”

Valerie Colon, Operations Manager, Champion Rent-A-Car, Dania Beach

“The most important for myself would be the Fourth of July when we became an independent country,” Valerie Colon said.

Jesus Cuevas Optometrist Cuevas Eye Center, Miramar

“I would say in my lifetime it would probably be technology and how the Internet has connected the world in one second,” Jesus Cuevas said.

“I think in my lifetime that is the biggest event. I was born and raised in Ohio and growing up, I knew the kids on my block and that was it, and that’s all we knew. Now any kid has access to anything.”

Gary Cardenas Jr.  Project Manager Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits, Miramar

“I think the moon landing, just the space program in general,” Gary Cardenas Jr. said. “The fact you could come together and bring a group of people together, obviously a massive group of people, and do something and accomplish things like that says volumes.

“For the type of spirit that exists here of getting things done, it kind of hits home for me. As a project manager, that’s what I do. Let’s bring people together and achieve a common goal.”

Alexandra Herrera interviewed our Town Topics talkers and photographed everyone except for Jesus Cuevas and Gary  Cardenas Jr., who shared their pictures. We thank you all!
