Miami Lakes Elderly Affairs Committee and the Youth Activities Task Force are once again jointly hosting the 2nd annual Family Health and Fitness Fair on Saturday, March 19, at the Mary Collins Community Center, 15151 N.W. 82 Avenue.
The inaugural event last year drew more than 500 people from Miami Lakes and surrounding areas to visit with more than 60 local businesses and learn about health, wellness and fitness.
This year, the annual Bike and Safety Rodeo will be merged with the Fitness Fair and include a Community Bike Ride beginning at 9 a.m. to showcase the new greenway and trail placed along N.W. 170 Street as part of the Town’s Greenways and Trails Master Plan. Once completed, the more than 18 miles of improved sidewalks, bikeways and intersections will encourage bicycle travel as a more viable option for transportation needs, plus adding recreational and health benefits for the community.
The committees will have some bikes available to rent, but they encourage attendees to ride their own bikes if available. Andy’s Police Supply will also be raffling off bikes.
All health, wellness and fitness-related businesses and organizations are invited to participate by providing educational information on health, wellness and fitness opportunities in Miami Lakes. Those business interested in participating are asked to register by Monday, February 29.
