Young journalists visit The Miami Laker

     Students from the Bethany Academy of Arts and their Principal Daisy Suita visited The Miami Laker newspaper on Sept. 18 to learn about journalism.

    The journalists, ages 11 - 15, are launching their own newspaper in October to be called The Bear Facts, after the school mascot. The private K-12 school is at 7801 NW 178th St. in Palm Springs North.

    Reporter Alexandra Herrera and Editor Linda Trischitta described how to report and check facts, and Alexandra also shared photo tips. Ad Sales Representative Isaac Camargo described how to grow their advertising business.

     The kids dived into the Laker archives and pulled issues from the month each one was born. Shown from left: Reporter Janhmitchel Avila, Photographer Nahaj Thomas, Principal Daisy Suita, Editor and Reporter Yilianis Duarte and Writer Johnae Brown, who will polish the reporters’ copy.
