Tommy 'T' Pena Foundation will mentor youths

On June 8, Miami Dade Parks and Miami-Dade County District 13 Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo Jr. joined the family and friends of Tommy “T” Peña at Norman and Jean Reach Park located at 7895 N.W. 176 Street, to celebrate his life and legacy and kick off the “Tommy T Foundation,” a local not-for-profit organization aimed at mentoring and engaging youth, ages 5-17 in arts and sports experiences.
“Norman and Jean Reach Park was Tommy’s home away from home. He left quite a remarkable impression on the park and his community,” said Bovo. “I am so pleased to see our beloved Tommy remembered in this way.”
“This is indeed a young man who grew up in the park and lived a park life to the fullest,” said Miami-Dade Parks director Maria I. Nardi. “Thanks to the Tommy T Foundation, more children and teens, who may not have it within their means, will be able to have those same great park experiences.”
The inscription on Peña’s memorial plaque reads: “A life well-lived is not measured by the number of years that we live, but instead by the lives that we positively influence while we are here. Peña was born and raised in Palm Springs North and although he passed away at 24 years of age, Peña paved the way to follow by not just how he lived his life, but how he influenced others to experience their own. He inspired those that knew him by his actions for the greater good, actions toward digging deeper and striving higher, living kinder and loving harder. Peña was not big in stature but no one had more heart than he. How many lives will you positively influence? - In Loving Memory of Tommy T. Peña 1992-2017.”
