Optimist closes Flag Football travel season

  Sean Davis broke loose for a 65-yard touchdown run and helped his Miami Lakes Optimist flag football travel 8-U team win the Battle of Florida tournament at the Miami Dolphins practice facility in Davie. Walker, Kayvon Webster and Stephen Morris returned to their old high school to help fellow alumni Sean Spence run the USA Football Fundamentals training camp for young athletes in Miami.   Phil de Montmollin of St. Thomas University has been named the 2017-18 Sun Conference Sports Information Director of the Year. He was honored at the annual Sun Conference meeting. It marked the first time a St. Thomas University SID has won the award.   The Optimist Club of Miami Lakes is seeking to restart its fall softball program, which has been dormant for two seasons for lack of girl's participation and volunteers. Longtime club member Jim Hamilton said the 58 year-old organization is calling on girls between the ages of 12 and 14 to sign up to play softball and help recruit their peers to join the program as well.
