MDCPS appoints Aponte as North Region Supt.

    The Miami-Dade County Public School District appointed Dr. Yesenia Aponte as its North Region superintendent on July 24. 

     Prior to her appointment, Aponte was administrative director with the district’s division of academic support and served as principal at Aventura Waterways K-8 Center and Bunche Park Elementary School, a district press release said. 

     Aponte was named Principal of the Year for the North Region in 2021-2022 while she led Aventura Waterways K-8 Center. 

     The North Region oversees 103 schools, which includes those in Miami Lakes.

     A Miami Lakes resident since 1996, she is married to Thomas Aponte and has three adult children.
