Pace alumni twins serve as police and fire chiefs

The city of Bal Harbour Village Police Department officially appointed Miguel de la Rosa as its new Police Chief on October 10. De la Rosa had been serving as Acting Chief since August, 2016, when former chief Mark Overton fell ill and passed away.

Miguel along with his twin brother, the City of Coral Gables Fire Chief, Marcos de la Rosa, graduated from Pace High School in 1986. Both brothers later went on to earn their bachelor and masters degrees from Florida International University.

Miguel completed his training at University of Louisville Southern Police Institute before serving the Village of Key Biscayne as well as Hialeah Police Departments.

Following a 24-year career with the City of Hialeah Fire Department, in 2013 Marcos joined the Coral Gables Fire Department as Deputy Fire Chief. In October of 2016 he was appointed to Fire Chief following the retirement of Chief Marc Stolzenberg.

Police Chief De la Rosa’s swearing-in ceremony was conducted by his twin brother and the event was held at the Sea View Hotel among fellow police chiefs, law enforcement professionals, long-time Pace Alumni friends, and family.
